Six tips to consider regarding vehicle owner transfer

Used car dealership about changing ownership of a car.

Before changing ownership of a car, here are six tips from Motus Select to consider.

• Gather the documents you need: Ensure you have the necessary documents required to transfer ownership of a vehicle (which differ depending on whether you are the buyer or the seller).

• Stick to deadlines: Remember that you have 21 days to complete the transfer.

• Set money aside: You will also be charged some fees, so find out what the costs of transferring ownership of a car are (determined by the licensing office where the vehicle will be registered).

• Don’t forget your ID: You’ll need to take your ID with you when you turn in your paperwork to the Registration Office to complete the process.

• Go to your closest registering authority: Approach the registering authority you have closest to your house and present all the documentation.

• Go in person: Transferring a vehicle can only be done in person. Even though today there are plenty of procedures that are carried out online, changing the owner of a car is not one of them.
