Artistic resident’s hidden talent

Despite a hearing and vision problem Ben Botes loves to paint vintage cars and the farm life.

A resident at Wings has been hiding his incredible art talent, and now he is eager to share that talent with everyone.

Housefather at the centre Andrè Smith said the 66-year-old Ben Botes arrived at the centre approximately 14 years ago and nobody knew that this humble man was a talented artist.

“This was only revealed a few days ago when he showed his paintings to some of the residents. Although he enjoyed drawing he didn’t really take up painting until about seven years ago,” said Andrè.

Botes’ brother-in-law became his inspiration when Botes accompanied him on sign-writing jobs.

Despite hearing and vision problems, Botes loves to using acrylic paint to portray vintage cars and the farm life. After a year’s break he is determined to paint again.
