The Herald has compiled a list of things to do on and around the West Rand.

• Father’s Day car show in Greenhills
Start your engines with dad as the passenger and take him to a car show for Father’s Day hosted by Mrs Randfontein at the Greenhills Sport Stadium on June 18. Time is 10:00 to 17:00. Cost involved. There will be competitions and prizes, a sound competition, potjiekos competition, show and shine, and entertainment for kids. Prizes and trophies up for grabs as well. R10 of each ticket sold will be donated to the RandWest SPCA.

• Teine vs Diggers in Senior Grand Challenge semi-final
Support the Teine Boys from Randfontein Rugby Club when they next face Diggers Rugby Club on Saturday, June 4 at home at the Greenhills Sport Stadium in the semi-final of the Senior Grand Challenge. Game times and match-up will be as follows:
• 13:00: Randfontein third team vs Diggers third team (B field)
• 13:00: Randfontein U/20 team vs Diggers U/20 team (A field)
• 14:40: Randfontein second team vs Diggers second team (A field)
• 16:15: Randfontein first team vs Diggers first team (A field)
Approval for these matches between the clubs have been received by GLRU with strict Covid-19 protocols and guidelines to be adhered to as per GLRU and General Manager Pieter Visser. In line with these guidelines Randfontein Rugby club will enforce all Covid-19 rules.

• Youth Day Music Festival
Join a relaxing Youth Day Music Festival at the River Park Garden Amphitheatre on June 16 with live music, good food, full bars, craft beer and gin. There will be live performances by Martin Bester and BandDr Victor and the Rasta Rebels and Zionruts. 11:00 to 17:00 at Glenburn Lodge. Free entrance for children under five. • Medieval Fayre in Muldersdrift
Experience battles, beards, stocks, swords, archery, meat and ale at the Medieval Fayre on June 4. Stroll through Rivendell Village, purchase wares, fill your bellies, dance and get merry on mead. 10:00 to 17:00 at La Vue Guest Lodge and Function Venue in Muldersdrift. • Cedar Tree Craft Market
Get the family and head over to the Cedar Tree Craft Market for their fun-filled Sunday market on June 12 and 26. Apart from live entertainment, you can expect an array of excellent stalls selling high-quality products, crafts, mouth-watering foods and something so sip on. 10:00 to 15:00 at the Khosa Sports Club at the corner of Shannon Road and Frederick Cooper Drive, Krugersdorp. • Jessica’s Live on the Lawn concert in Ruimsig
Spoil your rock star dad on Father’s Day with tickets to Jessica’s Live on the Lawn concert on June 19. Prime Circle, Elvis Blue, Obsession Live and Gap will be rocking the stage. Great food and drink stalls will be available to fill hungry tummies and quench the thirst. Gates at the Ruimsig Country Club open at 10:00. • Darts Day planned for Burgershoop
If you have ever thought of yourself as a darts champ, or have even just been interested in the game, why not bring your family along to the Mogale Fun Darts Day. The Mogale City Darts Association will be hosting a fun day where they will teach those interested how to play the game of darts. It will be held on Thursday June 16 at the Krugersdorp Sports Club on the corner of Wagen and Roode Streets in Burgershoop. • Friends of Kloofendal (FroK) events this June
Why not spend the winter with Friends of Kloofendal (FroK)? FroK is a non-profit organisation founded in August 2002. The organisation supports Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo by initiating and driving environment and community projects and activities within Kloofendal Nature Reserve. FroK consists of dedicated guides and volunteers who use their wide variety of knowledge and time to promote education, conservation and community-based projects.

• Moving into dance

• Discovery Community Forum annual general meeting (AGM)
Discovery residents are kindly invited to attend the Discovery Community Forum’s (DCF) annual general meeting. • Diversity on Mellville Koppies
As the nights get colder and the rain peters out, many of the more than 50 types of grasses on Melville Koppies are seeding, as are the two types of clematis. The wind will disperse their seeds where they will lie low, nestle themselves into the undergrowth and wait for the first rains of spring to give them new life. Other plants like the kalanchoe and crassula are in full bloom while the aloes are just starting to bud for their showing from June. Try out the 5km self-guided trail or the 3km heritage trail. If you want to learn more about the history and how living things interact on the Koppies, book a guided tour (book on 079 532 0083 – or be there by 08:30). On the first Sunday of the month join the guided 8km hike. Or take a map and just guide yourselves along the many different paths that criss-cross the Koppies. • Power of Play Zoom Virtual Workshop for Parents
Would you like to more about what your child should be playing and why? Then you should attend the two-hour virtual Power of Play workshop for parents on Tuesday, May 24 from 09:30 to 11:30. Topics that will be covered include a child’s right to play, types of play, benefits of play and play for different stages. All attendees will receive copies of the workshop notes as well as A Chance to Play manual after the workshop. Movies not to miss!

• ELVIS – From June 24
The film explores the life and music of Elvis Presley (Butler), seen through the prism of his complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker (Hanks). The story delves into the complex dynamic between Presley and Parker spanning over 20 years, from Presley’s rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America. Central to that journey is one of the most significant and influential people in Elvis’s life, Priscilla Presley (Olivia DeJonge).

• MARMADUKE – From May 27
When one of Marmaduke’s epic fails goes viral, the video catches the eye of a famous trainer who accepts the challenge of transforming Marmaduke into the winner of the World Dog Championship. It’s a wild ride from there with Marmaduke eventually taking centre stage, although not in the way everyone expected. In the end Marmaduke and the Winslows realise that the most important thing in life is not winning but being true to yourself and the ones you love.

• MEN  From July 1
In the aftermath of a personal tragedy, Harper retreats alone to the beautiful English countryside, hoping to find a place to heal. However, someone or something from the surrounding woods appears to be stalking her.
