The Randfontein Rugby Club’s first and third teams managed to gain victory over the Rustenburg Impala teams on Saturday Februay 12. The matches were played at the Greenhills Stadium.

After a long wait due to the pandemic, rugby fanatics could fill up the stadium again to watch the two giants in club rugby going head to head.

The stadium was packed with spectators looking forward to a great game of rugby and enjoying the opportunity to get some time out,” said Hennie van Eck, Treasurer of the Randfontein Rugby Club.

He added that the results of the matches between the two clubs were quite spectacular.

“Randfontein’s eighth man, Ashley van Wyk and the highly talented Christoff Kleyn were all over the field; at the back our midfield combination of Rudi Marx and Swys Pretorius was outstanding, and they scored three of the day’s tries.”

Andy Huysamen and Tiaan Nel converted four of the tries, while Andy succeeded with two penalty kicks. Their most trusted speedster Itu Mpete was also rewarded with a brilliant try.

We invite everyone to come out and enjoy the day with us as there is good rugby on the menu. The rugby league starts on March 5 when Randfontein hosts Germiston Simmers at the House of Pain,” Hennie added.
