An unplanned power outage at City Power’s Orlando Substation has left several areas in the south of Johannesburg without power since the early hours of this morning, 21 October.
Consequently, this has lead to Rand Water’s Eikenhof Pump Station being unable to operate due to the lack of electricity.
Rand Water’s reservoirs that receive their water from Eikenhof are now at significantly reduced levels, according to the Rand Water statement. This may have unfavourable consequences for several residents who get their water directly from Rand Water (including Johannesburg Water customers).
If the power is not restored soon, and the Eikenhof Pump Station cannot resume operations, several areas in City of Johannesburg, Mogale City, Merafong City, Westonaria and Rustenburg might be without water.
Residents are urged to use their water sparingly as there has been no indication as to when the power will return.
