Local artist on the rise

'I did not want my condition to put me down' – Westonaria hip hop artist.

Despite his attention-deficit/ hyperactivity disorder, Swanky Says, a Westonaria hip hop artist, said he wants to prove to the world no stumbling block should ever stand in one’s way.

Born and raised in Westonaria, the 23-year-old said he wants to show others that nothing in life must limit you.

“I did not want my condition to put me down and deprive me of my dreams. I therefore want people to know that nothing is impossible,” he said.

Swanky Says told the Herald that he discovered his talent at the age of 12. He kept most of his lines and notes, and only started recording his first song in matric.

“The song is titled First Script. In the song, I talk about why I decided to take charge of my own life.”

Asked about his dreams and aspirations, he concluded, “I want to grow my own record label and make it easier for new artists to get into the game of hip hop. I would love to explore new styles and teach youngsters the importance of being original.”
