• 8 to 13 April – NAG brings gaming’s best to the 2020 Rand Show
The new-look Rand Show just got bigger and better for gamers and geeks. The show’s Play Zone 2 is being transformed into every escapist’s dream as the Festival of Gaming explodes onto the scene. • 14 February – National big-screen release of SA feature film, Bhai’s Cafe
Bhai’s Café is set to make its national big-screen release on Valentine’s Day 2020. The 100-minute film is filled with drama, romance and good humour. It is produced by Razia Rawoot and Maynard Kraak, the latter also being the director. Bhai’s Cafe focuses on “family, urban gentrification and romance with a Bollywood touch” and was filmed entirely on location in Cape Town. • 21 to 23 April – West Rand Careers Exhibition
The Rotary Club of Krugersdorp is once again coordinating the West Rand Careers Exhibition for the 30th consecutive year. It will take place in the Greenhills Hall, Greenhills Stadium, Randfontein, corner of Homestead Avenue and on Northway Road, Greenhills, Randfontein. • 13 March – Daredevil Run 2020: Are you man enough?/ Daredevil 2020-wedloop: Is jy mans genoeg?
Imagine it – thousands of South African men of every shape and colour, clad in purple speedos, running for a common goal. On 13 March at Zoo Lake in Johannesburg, they will participate in the 10th Hollard Daredevil Run, a phenomenon that has morphed into a brotherhood over the years. This year, the run is emphasising the role men play in each other’s lives and the lives of their loved ones, and the influence they have to inspire positive outcomes. The Hollard Daredevil Run is all about creating awareness of male cancers, and saving lives through encouraging and enabling preventative screening. The Daredevil Run is only open to men, can only be run in a specially provided speedo (and running shoes!) and takes place during peak-hour Johannesburg traffic. • 16 February – Melville Koppies Hike
Join a 4km guided walk (takes three hours) on Melville Koppies. Learn about who used to live there while you enjoy the peace, and be surprised by the ways in which animals and plants interact. Hikers should be reasonably fit. Hike sets off at 8.30am sharp. Adults pay R80 and children R40. Funds go towards the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of the Koppies. • 19 February – Montecasino outing with U3A West Rand
The University of the Third Age (U3A) West Rand is going to Montecasino on an outing! The U3A is a learning co-operative for ‘third agers’. This term was coined to refer to what South Africans tend to call senior citizens or older people from all walks of life who are no longer in full-time employment. They will visit the Bird Gardens and see the performing birds at the show. Afterwards they will have lunch at Montecasino. Come and enjoy a fun day with them. • 21 to 22 February – National High School career expo on the West Rand
Learners in Grade 10, 11 and 12 as well as their parents are invited to attend the High School Career Expo to be held at Clearwater Mall in Roodepoort over two days. The aim is to provide information about tertiary education options, subjects, loans, transportation and accommodation, and give detailed information about courses to study. Everyone is welcome. The High School Career Expo is South Africa’s only national public exhibition that is designed to help primary school children find a high school that is most suitable with a view to their future. High school learners will get the opportunity to find a tertiary education institution with programmes that best meet their needs.
