A Christmas drink for thought

The Herald's non-alcoholic Sangria recipe you can share with friends and family this Christmas.

Why be satisfied with the ordinary fizzy drinks this Christmas when you can have something different?

The Herald has a non-alcoholic Sangria recipe we would like to share with you …

Ingredients:

• Two cinnamon sticks

• 1/2 cup sugar

• Three cups of pomegranate juice (red wine)

• One cup of freshly squeezed orange juice

• One medium orange, sliced into thin rounds

• One medium lemon, sliced into thin rounds

• One medium lime, sliced into thin rounds

• One medium apple, cored and cut into 1/2 chunks

• One cups of soda or sparkling water

In a large jug, combine cinnamon sticks, pomegranate juice, orange juice, orange, lemon, lime, and apple. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour and preferably overnight to allow fruit flavours to infuse.

Before serving, stir in soda or sparkling water and serve in a glass over ice.

* Alcohol is optional – the traditional recipe consists of red wine, which can be substituted with pomegranate juice.
