Are you for or against smoking being banned?

What do you think? Are you for or against the ban of smoking in public?

The Health Minister plans to ban smoking in public altogether.

This means even tougher legislation is on the cards for smokers.

Even the Tobacco, Alcohol and Gambling Advisory Advocacy and Action Group (TAG), as quoted in an article by theHerald’s mother newspaper, The Citizen, supports the plan, saying, “There is no question that tobacco is harmful and poses many health risks”.

But, while many are jumping for joy as they believe it would benefit the public, the Free Market Foundation (FMF) is fuming.

The FMF, founded in 1975, is an independent public benefit organisation that promotes and fosters an open society, the rule of law, personal liberty, and economic and press freedom.

The Citizen article quoted FMF executive director Leon Louw, who said, “It would violate the law, as there had been no public participation on the decision”, and that “… it was contrary to section 195 of the Constitution [https://www.gov.za/documents/constitution-republic-south-africa-1996-chapter-10-public-administration]”.

It will be interesting to see what will happen next in this regard.
