It’s that time of the year again – when the Lions Clubs go on a Christmas cake selling spree.

The 46 000 Lions Clubs have been selling Christmas cakes since 1975 to fund their projects in the community.

This year is no different – and the traditional Christmas cake sales will benefit the local communities. The belief shared by members of the Lions Club is ‘Community is what we make it.’

The Lions Club is one of the largest service club organisations in the world. They have 1,35 million members and are also the most effective service organisation.

The projects the Lions Clubs embark on include vision programmes, hearing projects, diabetes awareness and education, feeding schemes, assistance to senior citizens, and many more.

You can help by supporting your local Lions Club – purchase a Lions Club Christmas cake for only R85. The local club sells about a 100 cakes per year, but is hoping to raise the figure this year with help from the community.

By supporting your local Lions Club, you also support their global service network, thereby helping the club with their volunteer efforts around the world. For more information about the club and their projects, you can go to their website, www.lionsclub.org, or contact Ivan du Plooy on 083 704 2855.

Cakes are on sale now at the Herald‘s office at 113 Kenneth Road, Greenhills.
