Man run over by train on Father’s Day

Police are now trying to establish the identity of the man.

Westonaria — Police are trying to establish the identity of a man, aged approximately 35, who was run over by a train in Westonaria.

According to Captain Siphiwe Ndlovu, spokesperson for the Westonaria Police, the man was hit by a train on Sunday, 19 June at approximately 2.40pm.

Ndlovu explained that officers from the Westonaria Police responded to the railway-related incident which occurred between the Westonaria and Verdekom railway stations.

Upon their arrival at the scene, the police officers were met by a security officer who witnessed the incident. The security officer advised the police that a body had been found lying on the railway tracks.

The train came to a halt a short distance away from where the incident took place. It was travelling from Carletonville to Johannesburg.

An inquest is currently being conducted. Police are urging residents to assist them in identifying the deceased and tracing his family. The investigating officer, Constable Mokgalagadi can be contacted on 084 578 8793.
