Mile High steals the show in Pretoria

Mile High Kickboxing and Shidokan Randfontein recently took part in the South African Amateur Kickboxing Association (Saaka) South African Championships and showed that they are definitely a force to be reckoned with.

According to the owner and coach of Mile High Randfontein, Henk Pelser, this prestigious tournament took place in Pretoria.

Pelser adds that more than 1 000 fighters from all over South Africa competed in this tournament.

“Only Saaka-registered clubs had the opportunity to compete in this championship, therefore the pressure was on and my fighters had to pull out all the stops to steal the show,” says Pelser.

First up to take to the ring was Ernst da Silva who took part in his debut K-1 fight in the junior division. Da Silva did very well but lost his fight on a technical knockout.

The next opponent to take a swing was Karen van Jaarsveld, fighting for Pretorius Steel Works. She also took part in a K-1 bout but after three tiring rounds, Van Jaarsveld stood defeated on the judges’ score cards.

“Then Robbie Streak took to the ring and did very well in his first fight of the tournament. Streak won his first bout by knockout after delivering an astonishing round kick to his opponent’s head. This kick in the opening round of the fight immediately stopped his opponent in his tracks,” says Pelser.

During Streak’s second fight of the tournament, his nose began to bleed and because of that the match had to be stopped in the third round.

“I am extremely proud of all my fighters. They did well and under this amount of pressure they truly showed great skill,” says Pelser.

Pelser adds that his fighters will not give up and that they will head back to the gym. They will improve on their losses and certainly will come back out with fists swinging.
