The herald team wishes the owners and staff of Uncle Harry’s Roadhouse a happy 40th birthday.

Yes, you heard me, that place with the famous burgers has been around for 40 years and still is going strong.

In a recent visit to the roadhouse I had the privilege to meet owner Jimmy Pappas and asked him just how he gets it right. We know the food is great and the service excellent but what we don’t know is how do they do it and where did it all start.

Jimmy explained that his dad was in the café business for 48 years prior to establishing the roadhouse.

The roadhouse was built in 1973 and officially opened a year later when Jimmy was in Standard 9 (Grade 11). At the time, Jimmy had two choices in life: follow his passion of studying law or take over the family business.
Only in 1996 he decided to take over. Six years later, Jimmy’s father sadly passed away and today Jimmy and his wife probably are the best-known businesspeople in town. To celebrate their birthday the Pappas’ announced a big surprise for customers on 25, 26 and 27 July. Read more about the surprise in this coming week’s edition of the herald (25 July).
