The recent attack and brutal torture of an elderly woman on a farm in Randfontein has brought to the forefront fears of an upsurge in farm attacks.
This after a sharp increase in similar attacks was reported country wide.
According to Randfontein SAPS spokesperson Captain Appel Ernst, people can rest assured that there is no signs pointing to an increase in farm attacks in Randfontein.
“The incident although tragic, was a robbery and not an attack,” says Ernst. “The motive was crime.”
Despite such assurances from the police, many people still believe that these attacks are politically motivated and refuse to believe that crime is the sole motivation.
