WRDM fires back at DA

This comes after municipal spokesperson arrest for identity fraud.

The West Rand District Municipality has lashed out against the DA’s Gauteng legislature leader John Moody, following Moody’s suggestion that the Randfontein Local Municipality’s fraud-accused spokesperson, Lucky Chiya be suspended pending the outcome of his case.

Chiya is currently out on R5 000 bail after he allegedly used a false ID document to attain credit.

West Rand District spokesperson, Dennis Mangope, in response to a statement by Moody, says that Moody and the DA have no right to tell municipalities how to go about their business.

“John Moody needs to be taught how to close his mouth that shoots venom like a misguided missile.,” says Mangope

“We as the WRDM and the Randfontein Local Municipality are working on the case, and in order to establish facts, we wish to request that the public and relavant media houses give the Randfontein Local Municipality an opportunity to establish their internal processes and establish all the facts on tangible evidence.”

He adds that people should rest assured that the government will continue to expose and fight irregularities and corruption in all its forms and says that Chiya should be seen as innocent until proven otherwise.

Mangope accused the DA of trying to dictate terms and “teach our municipalities on how to run their government responsibilities.”

“There can be no excuse for this invasive behaviour from Moody which does not only infringe on Chiya’s privacy as a family man but also on his credibility in society.

“The DA must be ashamed about the embarrassment caused by one of its leaders,” says Mangope.

Meanwhile, Chiya’s case is set to be heard in court on 27 January.
