Crime stats released

The recently revealed crime statistics for Randfontein, Westonaria and the newly established Bekkersdal police stations show that the war against crime is far from won.

In Randfontein, murder, sexual crimes, hijacking and house robbery are significantly lower, showing that crime fighting initiatives by police and community organisations such as the CPF is working.

Burglary, on the other hand has escalated significantly.

Police have also made headway in terms of crimes which are heavily dependent on police detection with the most people being arrested for drug related crimes, drunken driving and the possession of illegal firearms and ammunition in ten years.

The splitting of the Bekkersdal police station and the Westonaria police station has also gone a long way in showing where the most crime in the area emanates from.

While crime in Westonaria is at an all time low, statistics indicate a serious crime problem in Bekkersdal with murder, sexual crime, burglary, house robbery and hijacking statistics rivaling those of much larger areas.
