Westonaria traffic Department blunders

"I will not take responsibility for a vehicle that is not mine."

The Westonaria Traffic Department has come under the spotlight after it fined a motorist R300 for a vehicle that does not belong to him.

This was revealed in a ticket fine which was sent to Cornelius Naudè who was fined for exceeding the speed limit in an 80km per hour zone.

In the ticket, a truck was captured exceeding the speed limit at 94 km per hour in an 80 km zone and not his VW caddie bakkie.

The registration number and all other details in the ticket fine belong to Naudè but the vehicle captured exceeding the speed limit is not his.

According to Naudè, he will not take responsibility for a vehicle that does not belong to him.

“I have tried to contact the Westonaria Traffic department to rectify the matter but no one is able to assist me

I have also sent them emails on numerous occasions but to date, no one has gotten back to me so I decided to ignore it.

I cannot take account for a vehicle that does not belong to me,” says Naudè.

He adds that the Westonaria Traffic Department has recently sent him a final notice to settle the payment.

“I don’t understand how their camera’s work.

“It captured a vehicle that does not belong to me so I will continue to ignore it,”says Naudè.

The Herald has approached the Westonaria Local Municipality spokesperson Kgabane Madiehe who says that he will investigate the matter and revert back with comment.
