West Rand’s very best face off in netball

West Rand Netball Super League was a buzz with teams battling to be the best in the West.

West Rand Netball kicked off with their annual super league at Randfontein Primary School on August 17, bringing teams across the West together for a thrilling day of action-packed netball.

According to chairpersons Sonika Gilman and Shiko Mokaila, the league is a crucial platform for teams to prepare for bigger tournaments, such as the SPAR Netball Championships, the Telkom Netball League and the Telkom Championship for U19s.

The season opener saw teams face off against each other in a round-robin, intense matches, showcasing their best skills.

“The matches were intense as teams battled it out to emerge victorious. The league’s inclusivity has a significant impact, with both male and female teams participating. This not only promotes gender equality but also provides a unique opportunity for men’s netball to grow and develop in the West Rand.

“As the season progresses, teams will be looking to refine their skills, build momentum and ultimately claim the top spot in the West Rand. It also serves as a breeding ground for talent, with top performers potentially earning an opportunity to trial for teams such as the Gauteng Jaguars, Fireballs and the Gauteng Super League.”

“We keep receiving new teams each year, as we grow, we hope that we can be a hub for players to dream bigger,” Shiko said.

The next league will take place at Hoërskool Bastion on September 14.
