EMS flips tyres to raise funds

A fundraiser was held in Westonaria for the EMS team heading to Mossel Bay.

An Emergency Medical Services (EMS) team was assembled and will be heading to Mossel Bay at the end of September for the Toughest Firefighter Alive (TFA SA) Open Competition.

Team coach Malome Ngwato explained a fundraiser was held at the Westonaria EMS station recently for this year’s competition.

Various stakeholders supported the event including Working on Fire, Rand West Emergency Services, Virgin Active, Planet Fitness, the police and the Traffic Department. Activities on the day included aerobics (led by Virgin Active), tyre flipping and a cross-fit challenge.

“The fundraiser was to help with funds for accommodation, refreshments and anything else they might need at the competition,” Malome said.

Malome explained they started the team to compete in Medical Rescue and Fire Challenges in February 2023.

In May, they competed in the Fit to Fight Fire competition hosted by the Midvaal Fire Department and then in July they also competed in the Dräger Fire Combat and Rescue Challenge. There, the women’s team came first and the team received various gold and silver medals for individual participants.
