Bodybuilder (69) impresses at competition

At 69 years old, Andrew Kroet is still going strong and competing in bodybuilding competitions.

Andrew Kroet (69) recently competed and impressed in the West Rand vs East Rand Bodybuilding Competition in Kempton Park.

He competed in the over-40s category of which he was the eldest competitor and walked away with first place. The overall winner, however, went to another competitor.

Andrew started his career in bodybuilding in 1984 after his doctor informed him he was unfit and overweight. He explained he was around 140kg and experienced trouble with high blood pressure, sugar and cholesterol. He was advised to start working out to combat the issues.

In 1990 he competed in his first bodybuilding competition in Zambia and many other places thereafter. He noted in his younger years he was interested in football and boxing and even trained with a few world champions in Toekomsrus, but gave it up.

He advised new bodybuilders to stay away from steroids as the side effects are harmful. For three years, he owned his own gym. He is currently a personal trainer and works out around five hours a day.
