Spartans promoted in rank in Carletonville

Spartans celebrate their athletes' grading success after months of training.

Spartans Karate Dojo members were graded to various higher belt ranks.

This follows their first grading of the year which was held on May 4 at the AGS Church in Carletonville. The grading was led by Shihan Kruben Pillay, who has achieved a sixth Dan black belt.

According to Spartan’s public relations officer Martin Venter, all of the members spent the day being put through tests where they successfully proved their skills. Each member was awarded with a higher rank belt.

Martin stated that the dojo has been standing for more than 30 years. The Westonaria dojo was established in 1989 by Shihan Pillay. The dojo in Winchester Hills was established by Sensei Enzo Pillay in 2023.

“The karate clubs have become part of the community now and help keep our children focused, and disciplined and give them the ability to defend themselves. Karate also promotes self-confidence which is a tool in today’s world of social media,” Martin claimed.

According to Martin, the dojo aims to develop its members to the highest standard possible.
