Church to host fun run for cancer awareness in Toekies

The Toekomsrus community is offered the chance to attend a run and walk for cancer awareness.

On December 2, the community of Toekomsrus will be attending a run-and-walk event for cancer awareness, youth development, and health education at the Nazarene Church.

The event will start at the church situated at 2 Diamond Street, Toekomsrus from 07:00. The fee for entering the challenge is R50 for adults and R20 for children. A distance of 4km or 8km will be completed by either running or walking to the finish line. The event will be filled with colour as attendees throw each other with colour bombs.

“The event will assist in spreading awareness of challenges in the community, also empowering the community to know about health issues so they can make responsible decisions,” said organiser Faizel Bhana.

The Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) will also attend the event as a means of spreading cancer awareness in the community. Cansa plans to educate the community about cancer causes, the effects of cancer, as well as detection and prevention.

Nikita Padayachey, Eunice Seedat, and Lervirn Moses together with the church committee will also assist Faizel in organising the event. Faizel will sponsor the medals for the winners, and the colour dust as well as conduct the marketing for the event.

Faizel emphasises that anyone is welcome to join the family event, adding that no person will be excluded if they do not pay.
