Spartans karateka promoted in rank

Several karateka at Spartans Karate Club were promoted in rank at a recent grading event.

Members of the Spartans Karate Club in Westonaria have been promoted in rank at a grading event held at Glenharvie Combined School recently.

The grading was carried out under the watchful eye of Shihan Kruben Pillay who has a 6th Dan black belt.

“All members spent the day being put through their paces and they were also tested on their karate abilities. Those who were found to be successful and proved their skills [basics, kata, kumite] were awarded a higher belt rank,” said Spartans public relations officer Martin Venter, who added that they aim to develop all their members to be of the highest standard possible. They teach people karate from age five to adulthood.

He added that the members have all been training regularly at the dojos that have existed for more than 30 years and have become part of the community.

The dojos in question were established in Westonaria and Carletonville by Shihan Pillay in 1989 and 2018 respectively and in Winchester Hills by Sensei Enzo Pillay this year.
