Football club furious after goalposts stolen

'Sadly, this is what we have to go through as a football team. Those goalposts are meant for the children of this community who are determined to stay off of the streets and hone their talents by playing football.'

Toekomsrus United Football Club founder Enrique Bhana is appealing to residents of Toekomsrus and surrounding areas to help locate the missing poles that make up their goalpost, which is believed to have been stolen.

This is according to Bhana who said three poles went missing at the football club’s sports ground in Toekomsrus on June 28.

As a result, they went to numerous places looking for the poles and only one of the three poles that make up the goalpost was recovered near the dumping site in Randfontein.

“One of our players alerted us about the theft. Sadly, this is what we have to go through as a football team. Those goalposts are meant for the children of this community who are determined to stay off of the streets and hone their talents by playing football. All that is now affected. We have games lined up soon and this just puts a damper on things.

“Such acts are taking away from these children who are still developing their talent,” said Bhana, who added they are hopeful they will find the other missing poles with the help of the community.

Anyone who may have spotted the missing poles is urged to contact Bhana 084 997 7252 or go to the local police station.
