The athletics team of Randfontein Primary School (REM) is aiming for greatness ahead of the Gauteng Athletics Championships which is set to take place from March 10 to 11 at the Ruimsig Stadium in Roodepoort.
This was evident when the Herald joined the team at their training session at the school, where they were preparing themselves.
The team of eight will be taking part in the 150 and 200-metre hurdles, as well as the 150-metre and 200-metre sprints, and the long-distance fast walk.
Sports coach at the school Tumi Sekhokoane said he is looking forward to the championships and is confident that his team will deliver.
“We will be participating in the championships to qualify for the nationals. This will be at the Ruimsig Stadium in Roodepoort and for this cohort to be here, they had to run the D2 District Championships first,” said Sekhokoane.
Asked about the team’s level of preparedness, Sekhokoane seemed confident and said that they will come back with a win.
“We are prepared but you can never be too prepared in sports, but I am confident that my team will showcase their talent to the best of their abilities, and we should come out with a few wins,” he concluded.
