“I started working with one of the biggest NGO’s in the country called Love Life. This was four years ago and during this time I was a volunteer known as a Love Life ground breaker where I was placed in a school to bring awareness on sexual education to the youth and informing them on how they can take care of themselves and their health.

“I also learned how to serve my community through netball as I became a grass-root level netball coach to keep children off the streets and allow them to learn new skills and discipline,” said Hermans.

She added that she voluntarily worked under the Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation hosting community sporting events including the Easter Tournament.

“My love and passion for sports made me content with serving my community even if I was not getting compensated throughout the period of four years. Finally, my work has been recognised through this award and that to me is an answered prayer that motivates me to do more and continue to develop the youth through sports,” said Hermans.
