Superstars foundation hosts successful soccer tournament

The purpose of the event was to entertain children and keep them off the streets while showcasing their talent at the same time.

Community organisation Superstars Foundation hosted a successful street soccer tournament at Hartzstraat Primary School and drew a large crowd of more than 100 people.

The event on October 1 at the school’s grounds attracted both young and old learners within the community, who showcased their skills on the soccer pitch.

According to Superstars Foundation chairperson David Matthews, the purpose of the event was to entertain children and keep them off the streets. –

“We hosted the street soccer tournament because there are no recreational facilities in Toekomsrus and we wanted to keep our children busy and off the streets while showcasing their talent at the same time.

Most of the young stars are extremely gifted and we want to work hard to hone their skills instead of watching it go to waste,” said Matthews who added that they were very happy with the turnout at the event.

He added that they received amazing support from local business who contributed refreshments as well as trophies and other items for the future soccer stars.

Sponsors of the event include Captain Liquor in Randfontein, Uncle Harry’s Roadhouse, West Rand District Municipality, The West Rand Sports Hub, and Hartzstraat Primary School that offered their facilities on the day.

Community members Duncan White, Lester Norton, Smit Kleynhans and Owen Green also helped a great deal to organise the event.
