Three out of three for Teine against Wanderers

Randfontein Rugby Club will go head-to-head with Germiston Simmers when the rugby league starts on Saturday 5 March

Randfontein Rugby Club is proving to be a force to be reckoned with at home with all their teams coming out on top against visitors Wanderers on Saturday February 26.

Although it was a friendly encounter, Teine showed no mercy and won all three of their matches.

The U/21s won comfortably by 44–17 while the second team secured a 20–7 victory, but as we know it’s all about the first team. Not even they disappointed and managed a nail-biting 26–24 win as it took flyhalf Andy Huysamen to kick the winning penalty with just three minutes left on the clock.

Randfontein Rugby Club treasurer Hennie van Eck said the first team encounter was something to behold as both teams wanted to stamp their authority as the flagship teams of their respective clubs.

Both teams showed what they were capable of and have to be congratulated. The spectators who arrived to watch and support their teams truly enjoyed it. It was a great game and a good exhibition of what club rugby is about,” he said.

Besides Andy’s winning kick, lock Christoff Kleyn and centre Rudi Marx were both shining stars for Randfontein.

Randfontein Rugby Club will go head-to-head here in Randfontein at the ‘House of Pain’ with Germiston Simmers on Saturday March 5 in the first match of the league.

We’re anticipating it to be a very interesting game because they’re one of the toughest opponents in the league. We invite people to come and join us to have fun, as we would like more supporters in the stadiums,” Hennie added.
