RandMark at this year’s 947 Ride Joburg
Numerous members of the RandMark Run, Walk, Cycle Club took part in the annual 947 Ride Joburg road event recently. Here are the results.
The RandMark Run, Walk, Cycle Club took part in the annual 947 Ride Joburg road event on November 21 with pride.
Cyclists started at the FNB Stadium and finished at the same venue after riding a loop of 97km around Johannesburg.
Lee Kotze, RandMark media representative said the 947 Ride Joburg is the race for which the club enters the most riders.
“It’s one of the biggest one-day cycling events in the country so everyone is motivated to do it,” said Lee.
She explained that the day started off with some uncertainty. Starting at the stadium was a first for the event, so nobody knew anything about the parking arrangements, or where the starting and finish lines would be.
“The weather on race day was also the coldest since the first race in 1997. Most riders were happy about the colder weather as it meant the slower riders wouldn’t have suffered that much.”
According to Lee, at some sections during the race the gusts of wind were bad and the riders struggled a bit. In the second half of the race they had a tail wind – the wind actually pushed them up the hill.
They had to do most of the climbing in the last 40km of the race and the tailwind was very very welcome.
Annamarie Jacobs finished third in her age category and RandMark is very proud of her.
“We are also very proud of some of the riders who did this event for the first time; many only started riding a year ago.”

“We have done this race with them for the past three events, and every year RandMark enters more and more athletes. Together with the sponsor we worked on raising funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation.”
