WATCH: Families challenged to show off their cricketing skills at home

There’s no reason to let staying at home interfere with your love of cricket. There are plenty of opportunities to keep fit, stay active and work on your technique with KFC Mini’er Cricket.

With all sporting activities postponed or cancelled as a result of the global Covid-19 pandemic, and the nationwide lockdown forcing everybody to say at home, many cricket fans might feel blue.

But, KFC and Cricket South Africa teamed up to challenge families to show off their cricketing skills at home, in an attempt to lift everyone’s spirits.

A press release received from KFC Mini Cricket read, ”Taking a cue from thousands of KFC Mini-Cricket kids who have found ways to continue to play their favourite game under lockdown, KFC is challenging them to share how they’ve turned their passages into pitches, and stoeps into stadia, with Mini’er Cricket.”
KFC Mini’er Cricket is all about substituting household items for traditional cricket gear – such as rolling pins instead of bats, socks instead of balls, and washing baskets instead of wickets – to keep the passion for cricket alive under lockdown.

Josh Hendricks and his dad – Proteas player Beuran Hendricks – have led the way to finding innovative ways to play their favourite game, while staying safe at home. Beuran, alongside Rassie van der Dussen and Temba Bavuma, are sharing their Mini’er Cricket moments with South Africa whilst under national lockdown.

This initiative is one of KFC’s continued efforts to help promote children staying active to help them develop, as it forms part of learning and skills development. This will also help them navigate through everyday life, keep their energies up, and give them an environment to improve other skills.

Cricket enthusiasts are encouraged to show their creativity and share their KFC Mini’er Cricket moments on social media, also tagging @KFCSAand using #minicricket on Twitter to stand a chance to win epic KFC Mini-Cricket hampers.
