The first West Rand Marathon is coming to Randfontein and will be held at the Greenhills Stadium on Sunday, 22 March.
The marathon will commence at 7am. Anyone is welcome to participate and entries are currently open. The registration fee is R50 for the 5km and R80 for the 10km. The race categories include juniors, veterans, masters and grand-masters.
According to Tebogo Siyaphi, the events coordinator, the marathon is to promote the sport, encourage people to live a healthy lifestyle and improve the runners’ personal fitness.
“It is important for people to attend as there are massive prizes to be won,” she said.
“Members will earn up to R20 000 for winning the 10km race — those who finish second and third will also get a prize. For the 5km, the first prize will be R4 000 while the rest on the podium will get something as well.”
People are welcome to wear any sportswear in which they feel comfortable.
