R’fontein veteran footballers still have it

Local football club competes in the Vets league.

Who said vets can’t play?

The Randfontein Football Club (RFC) proved you are never too old or too young to play soccer when their veterans beat Randburg Warriors FC 7–1 in an 80-minute Rand Central League Football Association (RCLFA) match on Wednesday, 5 February.

The Vets league is made up of numerous businessmen and you need to be registered to play. The Vets league has an age limit – only people from the age of 35 and up are allowed to play.

“We are very happy with such a big win as we are in a tough league (1st division) where some ex-pros play, such as Matthew Booth and William Naughty Mokoena who both played for Bafana Bafana.”

According to Antonio de Freitas, chairperson for the RFC, they play from the south to the north of Joburg and travel to play their opponents at their respective home grounds every Wednesday evening.

According to Antonio, they where cup winners in 2016, which was their best season.

The club is run by Antonio, Johnny Ramos and Keith Flynn.
