A Toekomsrus youngster, Cuba Evander Bouwer, has been selected by the South Africa School of Soccer (Sass) to play in the 2019 mini world cup in France.

The 16-year-old, who has made a name for himself as a top goal scorer, was identified by the academy along with 18 other youngsters to form a national squad.

Cuba, who represented South Africa in Italy last year, said this time around he will do better and retain his position as a top goal scorer.

Asked how he feels about this opportunity, Cuba said, “It feels amazing because I get to explore the world and motivate other youngsters, not only those in Toekomsrus, but even those from neighbouring communities”.

Cuba added that this is his way of showing youngsters that instead of wasting their lives doing drugs, they can use their talents to travel the world.

Although the family said they are excited for this opportunity, they are also appealing to the community to help them raise funds for the trip.

Those who would like to assist the family can contact them on 078 7969 293.

“We would like to thank those who have come to our assistance so far. Without their help Cuba will not be able to go to France,” Johan Bouwer, Cuba’s father said.
