Westonaria’s first parkrun a success

Westonaria parkrun launch successful as participants come out in numbers.

A total of 170 runners from Westonaria and beyond attended the launch of the first-ever Westonaria parkrun held at the Westonaria Sports Complex on Saturday, 18 May.

Kip Norman, the West Rand parkrun Ambassador said over 200 parkruns are held in South Africa every Saturday morning.

“Local runners get an opportunity to participate for free by simply registering online. It is something that takes just two minutes. You just need to bring your bar code with you, and once you have it, you can run anywhere across the globe,” Kip said.

Kip added that runners are even able to see their results online and monitor their progress in every race.

“We have our own parkrun in Westonaria now, and from now on, runs will be every Saturday morning at 8am.”

Kip said the reception was good and the launch saw a mixture of young and old runners.

“What we are trying to do is encourage as many people as possible to run. Please go join your local running club as it is part of a healthy lifestyle,” Kip added.
