Randfonteiners filled Hoërskool Riebeeckrand’s rugby fields when they came out in numbers to support the derby between Hoërskool Riebeeckrand and Hoërskool Jan Viljoen. The schools went head to head in various rugby matches on Friday, 3 May.

According to the sport manager of Hoërskool Riebeeckrand, Janco Tiedt, this year’s derby included a clash between Laerskool Randfontein (Ram) and Laerskool Rapportryer (Rappies) in which Ram walked away with a 5–0 win.

“The highlight of the night was the match between the Riebeeckrand and Jan Viljoen first teams, which ended in a 14-all draw. Riebeekrand’s second team beat Jannas’ seconds 18–10,” Janco said.

Janco said the derby brought together various people from Randfontein. “Parents and ordinary rugby fans came out in numbers to enjoy the clashes. We really had quite a good turnout from the community and we would like to thank them for their support,” Janco added.
