Super Tigers Football Academy expanding

The Super Tigers Football Academy is hoping to get more sponsorships in 2019 so that they can expand their teams and reach out to the community even more.

Bongani Duiker, head coach of Super Tigers Football Academy, has big plans for the academy.

“The academy has been growing despite many obstacles. We practice at the Greenhills Stadium, but the municipality has not been accommodating towards us and caused us to lose valuable sponsorships. We hope that we can join hands with them again, not only to grow the academy but to make a difference in the community,” he said.

He started the Super Tigers Football Academy in 2000 and rejoined the academy in 2018 after six years away from it.

The academy trains players for U/7 to U/19 teams and will be taking part in local tournaments from April. They will also host their own tournament this year. According to Bongani, they will also be starting a women’s team.

“I want the whole community to be involved. I want mothers and fathers to support their children in everything they do. They need to be on the stands when their children are playing,” he said.

The academy’s aim is not only to teach the West Rand’s youngsters how to play the sport, but also to teach them valuable life skills like discipline. The academy relies solely on sponsorships and Bongani is very appreciative of all the support they have received until now.

“Our sponsorships have made it possible to give children a platform to play the sport they loved and it has also helped a lot of other people in the community. I believe in reaching out to the community – right now the academy and our sponsors are busy building two houses for underprivileged families in Kagiso and together we are helping a school in Mohlakeng to keep its doors open,” Bongani said.

The academy has also helped a few players get a tertiary education. They hope that they will get even more sponsorships, so that they can reach out to more people.

“We want to make President Cyril Ramaphosa proud, and hope that he will one day attend our games in Randfontein.”
