No obstacle too big for them

Dean Muller and Sam Grobler from the Mile High Kickboxing and Shidokan Gym won't let anything stand in the way of their victory.

Two members of the Mile High Kickboxing and Shidokan Gym recently took part in various outdoor obstacle course events, and really outdid themselves.

According to their trainer, Shihan Henk Pelser, both Dean Muller and Sam Grobler showed that nothing can stand in your way to success if you train hard enough and believe in yourself.

Dean exceeded expectations when he completed the recent Wild Beast Outdoor Obstacle Course despite his medical condition and being in his 50s.

“Dean has been doing Kickboxing and Mixed Martial Arts for some time. He used to be the big man but got injured on the job. He was diagnosed with cerebellar atrophy which is the degeneration of the cerebellum that results in a loss of motor skills, balance, and slurred speech and could not work any longer,” Henk said.

“He started to focus on training and taking part in various races. Although these races were tough he didn’t surrender and pushed through, because giving up is not an option for him,” he said. Dean managed to place 400th in the Rookie category.

Sam placed second in the 10km race in the Rookie category at the Wild Beast Outdoor Obstacle Course and was 27th out of 627 entries at the recent Toyota Warrior in Tierpoort.

“Sam has had a lot of experience with all the outdoor challenges and he is also an exceptional kickboxer and Mixed Martial Arts cage fighter. He will be taking part in a big match on 30 March,” Henk added.
