Local legends beat SuperSport United’s legends

Legends from team Super Eagles of Mohlakeng were too good for those from Pretoria in a recent friendly soccer match.

Not even the presence of Senegalese international Mame Niang was good enough to help a legends side from SuperSport United overcome a legends side from Mohlakeng Super Eagles in a friendly soccer match recently.

The match, played on Sunday morning, 19 August at the Patrick Ace Ntsoelengoe Stadium was won by Mohlakeng 4–3 and has been described as entertaining and pulsating with players showing lots of flair and pace.

Mame, also a former Mamelodi Sundowns player, tormented local defenders Kelebogile Mabe and Tshimane Babedi. With constant lethal aerial attacks the international player made his presence felt and scored twice. Mongezi Bobe also scored twice and Doctor Ramahlo and Uyanda Hlabangani contributed one each for the Super Eagles.

“We also had a handful of football giants with the likes of Kelebogile Mabe, a former Orlando Pirates player, Mongezi Bobe, a former Black Leopards player as well as Itumeleng Sekwale, a former SuperSport United player. The visitors, however, had Mame, Gilbert Modabi, Thabo September and Aubrey Lekwane. In the end, both teams played a good game,” said Mnadla Hamnca, a former soccer player and now a community activist.

He added that such games are necessary to develop the game of soccer among the youth

“It was also great to see former topflight players back on the field and doing what they live for in their home town.”

Mnadla said they are aiming to have Mamelodi Sundowns Legends play here.

“We hope to have more matches like this in future, and present the youth with coaching clinics as well as motivational talks by former professional players.”
