Kickboxing club fights its way to victory

Fighters from a local Kickboxing and MMA club brought home 15 medals and competed in two tournaments last month.

Fighters from the Mile High Kickboxing and Shidokan Fight Club Randfontein brought home 15 medals and competed in two tournaments last month. According to Shihan Henk Pelser, owner of and coach at the club, he has trained 51 South African and World Champions during his time in Randfontein.

“We have a very high standard of training and that’s why we get such good results,” Henk said.

The Mile High Kickboxing and Shidokan Fight Club and Shansi Fighting Systems had an event in Sasolburg on Saturday, 7 July, and the following students from the local club competed against clubs from all over South Africa, including Middelburg and Lephalale:

– Jayden Gerber won a silver medal in a Shidokan fight.

– Damien du Toit won a gold medal in a Shidokan fight.

– Janu Jacobs won a gold medal in an Extreme Striking Full fight.

– Tristan Vyke won a silver medal in an Extreme Striking fight.

– Marius Erasmus won a gold medal in an Extreme Striking fight.

– Handru van der Heever, the youngest participant at the age of 6, won a silver medal in an Extreme Striking fight.

– Juan Carstens won in 1 minute and 25 seconds by TKO and won a gold medal in an Extreme Striking fight.

– Jayden Brits won a silver medal in an Extreme Striking fight.

– Sensei Marionette Gerber won a silver medal in an Extreme Striking Full Contact fight.

– Fransie Viljoen won a silver medal in an Extreme Striking fight.

– Lucan Paoli won a silver medal in a Shidokan fight.

– Seldon Roberts’ opponent forfeited the fight.

– Ocheme Patrik TKO’d his opponent in 1 minute and 50 seconds in the first round and won a gold medal in an Extreme Striking fight

– Marco Erasmus won a gold medal in an Extreme Striking fight.

– The last fighters, Marius Devenhage and Andries de Bruyn, both weighing in at 127kg, won a gold medal for an Extreme Striking fight.

“Overall the students from Mile High Kickboxing and Shidokan Fight Club Randfontein had a very successful day at this event. On the same note, Herman Oberholzer from our club had a Professional K1 fight in Cape Town and lost in the fourth round by TKO on the 30th June,” he said.

“We offer kickboxing classes which include five different styles. We have very intensive Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) training for young and old. We also offer spinning classes to help build stamina and strengthen certain muscles,” Henk concluded.
