Thembi games around the corner

"We are looking forward to receiving entries from more teams, as this is a Top 16 tournament"

Local soccer teams and those from the surrounding areas are aiming to give their best at the second annual Thembi Kgatlhanye Soccer Tournament to be held at the Patrick Ace Ntsoelengoe Stadium from 30 June to 8 July.

Banyana Banyana play maker, Thembi Kgatlhanye, is the brains behind the games.

“We had to let the tournament continue despite Thembi’s absence, and carry on with her ideal to have a tournament of this kind during the winter season. She does, however, link up with us on organisational matters. So far, we have the local teams, 4 Stars, House Party, and Roof Top from Mohlakeng, plus Bazengile, which is a team from the surrounding area. These teams are already affiliated,” said Mandisa Khuse of the Local Organising Committee (LOC).

“We are looking forward to receiving entries from more teams, as this is a Top 16 tournament. Girls’ and women’s teams are also invited to be part of the games”.

“I like what Thembi has done for the development of soccer in her own township on a tight budget and I’m happy that even in her absence the games will go on,” added Pastor John Matome.

He said he prayed for Thembi’s soccer boots and apparel before she left for the USA where she is currently playing for Houston Dash with another Banyana player, Lebo Motlhale from Brandvlei.
