The tournament was held at the Patrick Ace Ntsoelengoe Stadium in Mohlakeng from Friday, 30 March to Monday, 2 April, and the many spectators witnessed a four-day soccer fest that featured top players, among them current PSL players and 20 teams from all over South Africa, with nine of them being from the West Rand.

Even David Makhura, the Gauteng Premier, formed part of the big crowd. He was joined by Mzi Khumalo, Rand West City Local Municipality Executive Mayor as well as Nontombi Molathlegi, the MMC for Sport. Although Makhura was supposed to conduct the official kick-off, he unfortunately had to leave earlier than planned and head to Soweto when he heard the news about the death of struggle stalwart, Winnie Madikizela-Mandela.

The match provided all the thrills that go along with a final, as both sides put up a gallant fight for victory. It was only in the 38th minute of the first half that a header from Sipho Zwane hit the back of the goal and allowed the Magicians to claim victory.

“We could have done better, unfortunately one mistake cost us the match,” said Themba Zwane, the Trubzon captain.

“We have to now regroup and continue our fight in the Castle Regional League where we are currently sixth on the log. I am just so happy to have been able to play in this tournament because it was a home-based tournament. Hopefully we have made the locals proud by playing in the final.”
