Entries open for 2018 Old Mutual Soweto Marathon

Calling all runners! Entries have opened for the Soweto Marathon in the heart of Soweto. Details here ...

Entries for the 25th Old Mutual Soweto Marathon have opened – earlier than ever before, according to the organisers.

“As the organisers of the People’s Race, we continuously strive to improve the whole marathon experience. This year, we opened entries earlier than ever before to make sure the race is more accessible. We are pleased to announce that we have received 7 500 entries to date – which is roughly one third of the entry cap in a week,” said Sello Khunou, chairman of the Soweto Marathon Trust.

Thobile Tshabalala, Old Mutual Head of Brand, said Old Mutual is very proud to be a title sponsor.

“In our view, the Old Mutual Soweto Marathon is so much more than a race: it’s an iconic event in the historic heart of Soweto, inspiring South Africans to honour the past and celebrate our great potential together.”

All three categories, the 42,2 km, 21,1km and 10km runs, are open for entries and will close on 30 June 2018 or once capacity is reached.

According to Sello, “The Soweto Marathon Trust and Old Mutual once again promise runners and supporters a fantastic, fun-filled experience. We also invite athletes to join our series of informative workshops and fitness seminars.”

The Old Mutual Soweto Marathon has aligned itself to More than Yourself. This year runners are encouraged to run in aid of the Imbumba Foundation’s Caring4Girls programme.

The race will take place on Sunday, 4 November and will start and finish at the FNB Stadium, Nasrec, Johannesburg.
