Sport not to be missed this Easter weekend

Here's what's happening in the sporting world during the Easter long weekend.

The Herald has compiled a list of some of the must-see sporting events that will be screened on television this Easter weekend, from Friday, 30 March to Monday, 2 April.

FRIDAY, 30 MARCH

Rugby:

• Round 7 of the Super Rugby will kick off in the land of the long white cloud, also known as New Zealand, in a match between the Chiefs and Highlanders on Friday from 8.30am, with a clash between Australia’s Rebels and Hurricanes thereafter, at 10.40am. Two quarterfinal matches in the European Rugby Champions Cup take place at night, one between Scarlets and La Rochelle, and the other between Pau and Stade Francais, at 6.25pm and 8.55pm respectively.

Cricket:

• Catch the very first day of the Second Test between New Zealand and England from midnight, or tune in at 9.55am for the very first ball of the fourth and final Test between the high-flying Proteas and the gutted Australians (because of the ball-tampering saga).

And, if you are looking for something different, catch the following …

• ATP World Tour Masters Miami Open (Quarterfinal) at 3am

• PGA Tour Houston Open (Day 1) from 10pm

SATURDAY, 31 MARCH

Rugby:

• Round 7 of Super Rugby continues on Saturday, when the Blues and Sharks lock horns at 8.30am, followed by an all-Aussie affair between the Brumbies and the Waratahs at 10.40am. Also tune in just before 5pm as SA’s two biggest rugby rivals, the Bulls and the Stormers, go head-to-head in Pretoria.

Football:

• Local sides will go head-to-head in the Nedbank Cup (quarterfinals) at 2.30pm, with the first match being between Maritzburg United and Bloemfontein Celtic, followed by Ubuntu Cape Town against Free State Stars at 3.30pm, and Kaizer Chiefs against Baroka FC at 7.30pm.

English clubs lock horns in the Premier League, with the biggest match being between Everton and Manchester City, from 6.25pm.

SUNDAY, 1 APRIL

Rugby:

• Round 7 of Super Rugby will enter its third and final day in a mouthwatering match-up in Johannesburg between last year’s finalists, the Lions and the Crusaders, from 2.25pm.
