Mohlakeng set for big Easter Soccer tourney

Don't miss the annual Greater Randfontein Easter Soccer Tournament (Grest) – a four-day soccer fest featuring 20 teams.

The Patrick Ace Ntsoelengoe Stadium in Mohlakeng will once again be a battlefield during the Easter period.

From Friday, 30 March to Monday, 2 April a four-day soccer fest, known as the annual Greater Randfontein Easter Soccer Tournament (Grest), will feature top players, among them current PSL players. Twenty teams from all over will battle it out. Nine of them are from the West Rand.

Event organiser Abe Montoedi said, “We have Celtics and Magicians from Mogale City as well as a team from Bekkersdal, Kloof and Sibanye Gold Mine. Former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates captain, and current Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder, Oupa Manyisa, most certainly hopes his side, Roof Top FC, will lift the trophy but they have to deal with teams like House Party, Four Stars, TN Molefe FC.

“What surprises us is that although Kagiso and Bekkersdal host these types of tournaments, the teams and fans still like being part of Grest.”

Villa Masello from Naledi in Soweto was crowned as champion last year. Their 3–1 victory in the final knocked the 2016 defending champs, Mohlakeng Four Stars, off their throne.
