Help Hein to become the best of the best!

Ten students at the Randgate Harmony Dojang Club were chosen for the Tang Soo Do (TSD) World Championships in August. The event will be hosted in London in the UK.

For Hein van Jaarsveld, 40, who has been participating in this sport with his two daughters for three years, his goal is to get funds together for this amazing opportunity that does not come every day for a person so passionate and good in his sport. Before Hein started at the Randgate Harmony Dojang Club, he practised karate and was a personal trainer.

Hein will be representing South Africa in the Copper Box Arena against the best Haedong Kumdo and Tang Soo Do athletes from all over the world. They will be competing in swords, sparing, short weapons, long weapons and traditional forms.

Hein trains twice a week with swords, twice a week with weapons and twice a week he does Tang Soo Do. His inspiration comes from Kwanjanim Martin Prinsloo, whom he respects greatly.

This unique sport has two sections, namely Haedong Kumdo, a Korean martial art, practised by using one or two swords. It is inspired by ancient and modern Korean fighting styles. The Combat Tang Soo Do is the other section.

Most importantly, this sport teaches one discipline, self-control, fitness, helps you to focus, and in the times we live in, self-defence.
