The Randfontein Oval Raceway hosted the Ben Morgenrood V8 Flexi Challenge on Saturday, 10 February.
Unfortunately, at about 5.30pm, the rain came pouring down and the rest of the programme had to be postponed to a later date. Everybody was disappointed, but because the event started in the morning, many of the items had been completed, which made it still worthwhile.
Linda Killian, Michael Tushki, Cheralee, Johan de Klerk and Nadine Maré provided the entertainment. It was good to see singer Nadine back on stage again after a long break, better than ever.
The main attraction was Deon van der Merwe from the band Touch of Class. He entertained young and old, and as always his performance was top-class.
The Ben Morgenrood Group, sponsor of the event, had some of its cars on display.
The Herald was surprised to see Helgard Westraad, 11, in his 1400 Datsun ready for action, especially since he has been racing for only a year. Brian Cilliers, 10, (motorcycle rider) and Tylor Pretorius, 4 (jockey) were getting ready to race; their sidecar being one of the smallest on the country’s racetracks.
The Herald will keep readers informed as to when the Ben Morgenrood V8 Flexi Challenge race will be held. The Oval Track Raceway Club’s next event will be on Saturday, 24 February.
