First sporting action weekend of Feb not to be missed!

Here's what's happening in the sporting world this weekend.

The Herald has compiled a list of some of the must-see sporting events that will be screened on television on Saturday, 3 February and Sunday, 4 February.

SATURDAY, 3 FEBRUARY

Rugby:

• The Blitzboks would be looking to go one better at the fourth round of the World Rugby HSBC Sevens Series taking place in New Zealand this weekend after having been hammered 29–0 by the Aussies in the final in Sydney just a week ago. Catch the Blitzboks in action as early as 1am against Papua New Guinea, then at 4.30am against Russia and at 8am against England.

But that’s not all …

The Six Nations tournament kicks off later on Saturday at 4pm between Wales and Scotland, followed by France and Ireland at 6.30pm.

Cricket:

• One would have to wake up early for this one but it’s worth it. At 2.45am the ICC U/19 Cricket World Cup Final between India and Australia starts, while the first ball of the 1st T20 of the Twenty20 Trans-Tasman Tri-Series between Australia and New Zealand will be bowled at 10am.

Football:

• Local South African sides to go head-to-head in the ABSA Premiership are SuperSport United vs Bloemfontein Celtic (3pm), Bidvest Wits vs Kaizer Chiefs (5.30pm) and Orlando Pirates vs Maritzburg United from 8pm. The quarterfinals of the African Nations Championship will take place 6.15pm.

There will also be some Premier League action throughout the day with a big clash between Arsenal and Everton at 7pm.

Motorsport:

• Motorsport lovers would not want to miss this one – The 2018 Race of Champions from 3pm! According to the official www.raceofchampions.com website, “The Race Of Champions was created in 1988 … the first edition of the event, held in Paris … gathering all the sport’s champions together in identical cars”.

SUNDAY, 4 FEBRUARY

Rugby:

• The final day of the World Rugby HSBC Sevens Series in New Zealand and knock-out rounds take place from as early as midnight. The Cup Final takes place at about 9am.

Then from 4.30pm, Italy and England will go head-to-head in Rome in the third match of the first round of the Six Nations.

Cricket:

• Get to SuperSport Park in Centurion! The second One-Day International between the number-one ranked Proteas and India will commence at 9.30am. Before that, catch the finals of the Women’s Big Bash League and KFC Big Bash Twenty20 from 3am and 7.15am respectively.

Football:

• Don’t miss the African Nations Championship (CHAN) Final at 8.45pm. The two teams in action were still to be decided at the time of print.
