There are Randfonteiners who excel in Haedong Kumdo.
Haedong Kumdo is a Korean martial art, practised using one or two swords. It is inspired by ancient and modern Korean fighting styles.
Late in July, the Harmony Haedong Kumdo Dojang Club sword fighters competed in the tough Haedong Kumdo Lowveld Championships in Nelspruit.
The members of the club were up against some tough competition but showed great sportsmanship.
Hein van Jaarsveld, 40, took gold in the Forms category, silver for sparring and another silver for paper-cutting. Tallica van Jaarsveld, 11, grabbed gold for sparring, silver for paper-cutting and silver for Forms while nine-year-old Demoné van Jaarsveld managed gold for paper-cutting, bronze for sparring and silver for Forms.
“We at the Harmony Haedong Kumdo Dojang are very proud of our achievements.
I also want to wish the entire Dojang the best for the SA championships that will be held at Wits University,” said Martin Prinsloo, 35, master and coach.
The selected students will go to London to represent South Africa among the best Haedong Kumdo and Tang Soo Do countries.
