R’fontein 7s team off to Zambia

Randfontein Rugby Club will feature in an international 7s tournament in Zambia during the weekend.

Randfontein Rugby Club will feature in the Mufulira 7s Rugby Festival in Zambia this weekend.

The festival takes place from 5 to 6 August and is considered an international tournament in which 32 teams, amongst them the Lions 7s, the Western Province 7s, a 7s team from Australia and one from New Zealand will take part. The Mufulira Leopards are the hosts.

Twelve players, two coaches and two team managers from the local club have been selected with one goal – to win.

“We are going to this tournament with the hope of winning,” said Dawie Ernst, one of the coaches.

According to the other coach, Louw Parson, the team has practised hard and is ready for the challenge ahead. They left on Thursday.

This Randfontein team won the Lions 7s Championships two years ago and finished in second place in 2016. They aim to add another trophy, the Mufulira 7s Rugby Festival trophy, to their trophy cabinet.
