Entries open for ‘Monster’ races

Entries have opened for the 2017 FNB Magalies Monster and FNB Platinum Trail Run.

Entries are officially open for two of the North West Province’s most revered sporting events, the FNB Magalies Monster MTB Classic and the FNB Platinum Trail Run, which take place in June.

“Both the FNB Magalies Monster and the FNB Platinum Trail Run portray the best off-road routes on offer in the North West Province,” said Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports.

“Mountain bikers and trail runners can expect an exciting challenge that will reward them with a sense of accomplishment. With both events taking place at the same venue over the same weekend, sports enthusiasts can enjoy a fun-filled weekend away with family and friends.”

The FNB Magalies Monster MTB Classic is ideal for all mountain bikers. Entrants can choose between a 15km Fun Ride, the 35km ‘Half Monster’ and the 70km ‘Monster’.

Robyn de Groot conquered the Monster in 2016, in an impressive time of 3 hours, 38 minutes and 37 seconds. According to Robyn, the 2016 FNB Magalies Monster MTB Classic was nice and technical. “Crossing the finish line first is a nice feeling. It’s a good race to win. More professional mountain bikers should race this event.”

The FNB Platinum Trail Run has three stunning routes to choose from: a challenging 24km race, a shorter challenge of 12km and a less challenging 8km route.

Marianne Semmelink was the woman to beat at the 24km FNB Platinum Trail Run in 2016, crossing the finish line first in 1 hour, 54 minutes and 46 seconds. “I really enjoy being out in nature. I view it as my quiet time,” said a delighted Marianne. “Crossing the finish line first was unreal. I will definitely be back next year.”
